initial ideas

The main premise of the assignment was an energy efficient house, unlike the rest of the surrounding houses. These houses, described and sold as “contemporary” architecture, are all designed with the same pattern in a more or less fortunate way: concrete boxes and large windows, regardless of orientations or any climatic requirements.

surroundings

The privileged climate of an unique geographical location invites to implement passive energy efficiency strategies to take advantage of such favorable conditions. On this basis, such basic aspects as the distribution, orientation and ventilation of the interior rooms, together with the solar protection elements, define the project itself.

With this in mind, and thanks to the commitment of the property, important design decisions are made. These are, for instance, the use of timber structure, SATE system for insulation and radiant floor.

The result is a building well adapted to a complex topography, with a semi-basement and a swimming pool working as retaining walls. This distribution allows the creation of a large terrace as the main outdoor space of the house, which is accessible from the living room and the master bedrooms.

The quality of the interior is reinforced by the space that allows the use of the cross-laminated timber (CLT) structure and a sloping roof, finished off with zinc.
